Chalky’s Bite wins 2008 Quality Drinks Awards
Chalky's Bite has been awarded Gold at this year's Quality Drinks Awards.
The prestigious awards, which are now in their third year, recognise and reward excellence and innovation in the world of alcoholic drinks and are rapidly becoming the must-have accolade in the Drinks Industry.
Chalky's Bite came about through a challenge from Rick to Sharp's head brewer Stuart Howe. The aim was to create a unique British beer that could stand alongside the greats of Belgian brewing.
Stuart Howe said: "Chalky's is the kind of beer I've always dreamt of brewing, so for it to be recognised at the highest level means the world to me and its success comes down to having excellent local ingredients and a fantastic brewing team here at Sharp's.
"To beat beers from some of the biggest and best breweries in the UK certainly puts Chalky's Bite shoulder to shoulder with the greatest in the world".
Conceived in 2006 and named after Rick Stein's vivacious terrier Chalky, the beer has subtle flavouring from wild Cornish fennel, Cornish malted barley and a delicate balance of three different hops. It is an English beer in a Belgian style with the character, individuality and quality to stand alongside the great Belgian beers.
Rick said: "Tonight I'm going to celebrate the gold medal with a bowl of mussels, a plate of crisp chips some mayonnaise and a bottle or two of Chalky's. I'm proud that the name of my much loved dog lives on with this excellent beer. Lucky are we to have a brewery like Sharps nearby."
