Rick Stein's Café reviews

"You can experience Rick Stein, without the hefty bill of the main restaurant" at this "bustling" all-day bistro, whose "high-quality" fish and "fun" style mostly wins a thumbs-up.”
Harden’s UK restaurant survey 2012

Deceptively large café hidden behind a tiny shop front on a small side street. Concise, seasonally changing menu of tasty unfussy cooking with influences from Thailand, Morocco and the Med. Homemade bread to start; great value set menus. Comfy, simply furnished bedrooms. Breakfast in café or small courtyard garden. (Bib Gourmand).

Michelin Guide, 2012

"An informal outpost of the TV chef's empire, Rick Stein's Café sees diners tightly packed between whitewashed walls, where lively artwork and shiny service set the tone for a feel-good operation.  As you might expect, seafood dominates a menu of crowd-pleasing dishes - at inspection a generous portion of mussels in chilli, tomato and parsley was followed by goujons of plaice served with a salsa verde mayonnaise."

The Good Food Guide, 2011

"No-nonsense, cheerful fish eatery. The Café in the centre of Steinstown aims to be just that, a no-nonsense, cheerful bustling venue with tables packed cheek-by-jowl, informal service and a menu that runs from breakfast to dinner. Fish is the abiding theme, with mussels in chilli, tomato and parsley to start, followed by sea bass with Pernod and fennel mayonnaise. A light seasoning of Asian themes brings on Vietnamese pho soup with prawns and rice noodles, or lamb and spinach karahi for main.  Finish with lemon tart and clotted cream."

The Good Food Guide, 2010

"Can't get into The Seafood Restaurant, who cares? - top quality food (including the most delicious fish ‘n' chips) helps make this all-hours bistro a worthy alternative to Rick Stein's flagship establishmen."

Harden's Restaurant Guide, 2010

"A family-friendly attitude is one of the virtues of Rick Stein's cheerful, functional café set in a former fisherman's cottage in the centre of Padstow. It's a popular place, there's lots of animated chatter and close-packed tables are constantly in demand. And it's not surprising when the kitchen delivers value for money and generous helpings of straightforward bistro food (especially fish)."

The Good Food Guide, 2009

"Rick Stein's fun operation offers an earthy menu, on which sublime fish 'n' chips is the star dish."

Harden's Restaurant Guide 2009 (people's verdict)

"The Cafe is a pleasant, rather intimate space with bright contemporary art on the walls & close-packed wood tables & where young & cheerful service matches the ambience."
