It's great to be open in Falmouth. Outside Padstow it's my favourite seaside town in Cornwall.

Jill and I have looked around Cornwall for a long time for a place to expand beyond Padstow. Our inspiration for The Seafood Restaurant originally came from a restaurant in Falmouth that we frequented during the 1970's, so it seemed only natural to finally open our own restaurant here. It's a place we both know well.

I've always been fascinated by Falmouth. From childhood reading, it was one of those romantic ports where ships left to rescue nobles from revolutionary France in Scarlet Pimpernel novels. Historically it's always been a major port. It has one of the best natural harbours in Europe. It has fabulous fish and is a pretty and atmospheric Cornish town. Why would I not want to be part of somewhere so special?

We've planned a menu similar to Stein's Fish & Chips in Padstow, with cod and haddock together with a variety of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass in batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp. We'll also be serving roasted fish from our new charcoal oven which gives a delicious barbequed flavour.

We'll be serving homemade chips, curry sauce, mushy peas and our mayonnaise-based tartare sauce. There'll be cups of tea and chip butties, of course, but also some nice wines and good beers, particularly our own, Chalky's Bite and Chalky's Bark, brewed by Sharp's Brewery in Rock.

We've opened a Seafood Bar upstairs to celebrate fabulous Fal oysters. In the seafood bar you'll be served local seafood like Cornish oysters and crab, scallops, smoked salmon and prawns.  We've half a dozen champagnes and white wines from Cornwall to California via Australia and New Zealand, France, Italy and Spain.

Rather than taking bookings, we suggest that you just come along and we'll find you a table as soon as we can.
