Director

Charlie loves creating the very best dining experiences with fantastic wine, personally choosing every bottle in our business.

The youngest of the three Stein boys, Charlie was born in Padstow and now splits his time between there and London. Charlie was immersed in food and wine from a young age and remembers sneaking into The Seafood Restaurant kitchen through the back doors to get a taste for what was going on. On early family holidays around the world, Charlie was exposed to many different cultures, cuisines and ways of life, which has fed into his love and appreciation for the culture of food and drink. This has been influential in hi career in the world of hospitality.

Following completion of his Wine & Spirit qualifications, Charlie went on to work at the new-wave London wine merchants, The Vintner as marketer and purchaser before moving into sales. Charlie is a Director across all of our restaurants, and is responsible for the successful online wine shop. Every bottle is chosen by Charlie, utilising his connections made during his travels to bring the very best wines to our customers.

He is a familiar face on television, with appearances on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, and co-hosting Wine, Dine and Stein with brother Jack. Charlie regularly hosts masterclasses, wine dinners and can often be found pottering around one of our restaurants, checking in with our teams and customers.

On his love of wine, Charlie says: ‘It’s more than simply the characteristics of its particular grape variety; it is in fact singing of its particular place on the planet. When trying a new wine for the restaurant, I like to think that it has another sense of place, and I think back to all my experiences and know that this wine’s place is at The Seafood Restaurant to be enjoyed with all that wonderful food.’
