In his Long Weekend series, Rick will be taking us to some of his favourite destinations for a long weekend including Bordeaux, Berlin, Reykjavik, Bologna and Vienna. Expect the usual fabulous local markets, local restaurants and in true Rick style, a few wineries along the way too.
Speaking in our newsletter earlier this spring Rick gave us a sneak peek of what to expect:
“The weather in Bologna earlier in the month was considerably colder and wetter than in the UK but the medieval heart of the city was made perhaps more atmospheric by the gloom and I was tucked away in several snug and comforting restaurants, enjoying the most wonderful tagliatelle, tortellini, raviolis, Parma ham, Parmesan and Sangiovese. I spent a week there filming which will appear, slightly poetically licenced, as a “Long Weekend”. I’ve already filmed four other “Long Weekends” in Bordeaux, Berlin, Reykjavik and Vienna; the series of five programmes starts at the end of April and there’s another five later in the year accompanied by a book, of course, of all ten cities.
The recipes will begin to creep into our menus in the next few months, especially in our new restaurant in the centre of Marlborough, not yet opened but soon to be. I have a magnificent duck pithivier which I got in Bordeaux for there, reflecting the fact that we will be featuring more dishes from the land even though seafood from Cornwall will be a big star.”
