Chef Lecturer at Rick Stein's Cookery School
Aarran is one of the Chef Lecturers at our award-winning cookery school in Padstow. After growing up in Newquay he moved over to Corfu with his parents at the age of 18 – which is where he passion for food and cookery started, working with the freshest Greek produce in a local café.
A few years later, on his return to Cornwall, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in the food industry and so started a job in our Padstow Kitchen Team making chutneys, curry sauces, jams and more. During this time he often lent a hand at our cookery school whenever they needed extra support to gain some more experience and learn new skills from the head chef lecturer at the time. When a full-time role at the school became available he jumped at the chance, and along with the new role he also started his cookery NVQ at Truro & Penwith College. He’s since passed his level 3 NVQ and progressed up to chef lecturer and worked in most of our restaurant kitchens to support our head chefs, from Porthleven up to Winchester.
His favourite course at our cookery school is Far Eastern Odyssey as it’s a great mix of fish, shellfish and meat dishes all with lots of exciting flavours and spices – like Singapore chilli crab and beef rendang curry. He’s also been lucky enough to cook with Rick live on stage at the last two Padstow Christmas Festivals – on both occasions Rick shared with the crowd how envious he is of Aarran’s surname, Lightholder. Great name, great young chef.
