Join us Rick Stein, Barnes for a series of themed, hour long masterclasses with our chefs. At each masterclass you’ll discover hints and tips to make your life easier in the kitchen and enjoy plenty of tasters along the way.

A fun and interactive session for children. Meet some of our fishy friends, get hands-on with cooking fish and learn about the creatures of our sea. Suitable for mini Steins aged 5 – 14.

Discover where we source our oysters, how to shuck and how to best enjoy them, accompanied by a glass of wine.

Join our head chef for a glass of wine and learn about some of the lesser known shellfish with a chance to taste and guidance on how to prepare them at home.

Come and learn the art of cupping with Origin Coffee Roasters. Discover how different countries of origin and processing methods, effect the flavour in the final cup and learn the art of slurping; an imperative part of coffee tasting used to distinguish the characteristics of each coffee you try. This is a great event for those looking for an introduction to specialty coffee or for the more experienced to sample an incredible array of coffees. Following the masterclass, enjoy a delicious brunch with a cup of great coffee, of course.

Meet our Head Chef, Ian Salmon

Ian had a keen interest in food from a young age with his first experience of working in a restaurant coming at the age of 15 when he took on a summer job as a Kitchen Porter. This drove his passion to work in the industry and following the completion of his Kitchen Larder and Patisserie NVQs, he began to climb the kitchen ladder as Chef de Partie at a 2 AA Rosette fine dining restaurant. He then made the move to Padstow and began working at The Seafood Restaurant, working his way up from Commis Chef to Chef de Partie. He then spent a year working at a Michelin stared fine dining restaurant in Torquay before returning to Padstow to continue his love affair with Rick’s ethos of fresh fish, simply cooked, taking on the role of Sous and then Head Chef at St Petroc’s Bistro before the opportunity arose to take charge of our kitchen here in Barnes.
